Upgrading MacBook Ram

Some of us out there need more ram for the tasks that we perform on our Mac’s every single day, I am actually one of those people. I like to do video editing, edit photo’s on iPhoto (that has over 4K photo’s), listen to music on my iTunes and browse the internet all at once!

Now can you believe it that I did all of this with only 1GB of ram? Well you better, sometimes during these tasks I would look at my iStat and only have a few MB of ram that were free. My computer usually ran incredibly slow, so I took the plunge and ordered 2GB of ram from Mac Sales.

Upgrading my ram was incredibly easy, so I thought I would show everyone out there on how you can upgrade the ram on your MacBook.

How to upgrade

This was my first video tutorial, so forgive me if it is not the greatest tutorial. To upgrade the ram, all you need is a very tiny screwdriver (Apple says: Philip size 00), a coin to take out the battery and of course your ram.

The first thing that you need to do is take our the battery, then you will see an “L” bracket inside with three screws, unscrew them.

After you take the L-bracket out you should see two levels, pull those all the way (they will require a little force) until the two sticks of ram pop out. Pull them out and replace it with the new ram, push it all the way in (this will as well require a bit of force).

After you put the ram back in, put the L-bracket and battery back in, then fire it up. Once your mac is running, go to Apple => About This Mac, where you should see the amount of ram that you put in.

Final Words

Replacing your ram should take no more than 10 minutes, it’s really quick and painless. Upgrading from 1GB to 2GB has been like a dream come true, I can do so much more at once and still have my computer run very smooth. If you want to read more of Travis Reynolds subscribe to the RSS Feed!

  1. As always Travis, great post and now with VIDEO very nicely done. It is so easy to install Ram even though I was afraid of opening up my laptop the first time but once you know how it is a breeze. Don’t forget the coin ;)
    Great Job!
