Let me go over first, what this series is about: Apple just updated there MacBook’s and MacBook Pro’s. Now like many of you, I do not have the option of upgrading to the newer models, so I am stuck with my older version. I am basically doing whatever I can to get my machine as good as new.
Yesterday, we went over hard drive space. We are running low on space, so we needed to get some of our space back. I went from having 5GB of space left to 37GB (yesterday I said 20, but at the same time I was burning a DVD I planned on deleting when I was done with it). Check out the article to learn how you can get more space on your machine.
Today I want to go over organization, we probably have programs, files and documents all over the place. Now we are going to organize everything. I want you guys to get use to the Apple + J command. This will allow us to organize everything. Before we get into that, let’s put all of our files and documents into the right place.
Organization
I want you to focus on the dock. I don’t have a lot of applications and documents on the side because I always try to keep that place clean. But look at the dock. I probably only use about 10 of those, if that on a regular basis. So The first step what I did was organize my dock and Desktop. I got rid of all the applications I don’t use on a regular basis and all the documents on the right. I put them all in a specific folder or deleted them. After doing all of this, take a loot at how my desktop looks now.
Just look at that, I go from about 20+ applications to 14. This makes my life a WHOLE LOT EASIER AND LESS STRESSFUL! Believe me, it is so nice, to not look at all those. I love having my doc like this. It’s so simple and easy. So please, trust me on this one. Only put applications you use on a regular basis on the doc. If you ever need to use an application that is not, you can always use spotlight.
Creating Folders
I used this method in my applications folder. Just like the doc, it my life a whole lot easier and less stressful. Not only do I have to worry about the 30+ applications in there, but now I just have to worry about five really. I made a folder based on what I used it for and put it in there.
Look at that, now I can sort through all my applications and not have to worry about anything. I do this for all of my folders too, so I have special folders in my document folder, in my home folder and movies folder. So believe me this really helps!
