5 ways to get the most out of your notebook
There are many of us out there that use their notebook as there main computer. If you are like me, you probably have loved the portability, but at the same time wish that you had more power for certain tasks. I am going to address the problems and show you how you can get the most out of your notebook.
1. Moderate you Hard Drive Space
A major problem that most people have is Hard Drive space. If you have a tower you have the option of adding some extra hard drives for more space. You however do not have that luxury with a portable machine. So here are some tips for you, how much space you have should not be an issue now.
First of all, only download applications that you think you are going to need in the near future. Second, when you no longer need a document or application, delete it. Now lets say you listen to a lot of music, iTunes is perfect for this. Look at the play count on your songs and delete the ones that you hardly listen to. Then with your stored photos, delete the ones that you think will not be important to you in the future.
2. Download a disk utility like iStat.
Now, why do I ask you to do this? So that you can monitor your computer and make sure your computer is in good health. Your computer will not be able to handle the tasks as well as it would on a tower. So you need to use these programs so you can see where your power is going, and what health your computer is in.
You may need to close a program to give your processor a break, or delete some files to make room for a bigger hard drive. There’s so much information you can learn about your computer, and the shape it is just by some of these programs.
3. Get a Case
This will not only protect your portable machine from breaking, but at the same time expand its life span. You want to have this computer as long as possible, it will help you save money and will be easier so you do not have to change computers. These cases can be used to put your notebook in when you are traveling, when you are not using it, or when you want to put it away.
4. Have virus protection
NoteBook or not, you need a virus protection. Yeah everyone hears that apples don’t get virus’s. That may be true, but you still need to get one. Viruses are just as capable being on a mac, as they are on a PC. This will keep your computer form harm, from losing files, and from your computer breaking. A virus can totally corupt your whole OS. So trust me on this one, just like you would on any other computer, get virus protections
5. Upgrade
This is for the people who want to have a faster, smoother running computer. Your computer loves power, the more power the better. Now, you do not need to go and buy your ram or Hard Drives from the big companies. There are tons of offbrands that can do just as good. There is no proof that the big companies’s products work better.
Just for an apple computer, never buy there products such as ram and hard drives. They severely over charge you. A good site that I like to use is Mac Sales. They offer verry cheap ram, harddrives and other stuff.
Other Thoughts
Some other thoughts that I thought would be helpful is to buy a portable hard drive. This would help in more space, plus you can use it to transfer files between computers. Secondly, use passwords, it helps a lot against hackers. You never want people you don’t know snooping around your computer.
Is there anything that you do to get the most use out of your notebook? What do you do to get the most Power?
